[성명] 우리의 구호는 결과가 될 것이다
결국 강행하는 <뮬란>의 국내 개봉 규탄한다!
지난 7월 1일, 한국의 시민단체들은 월트디즈니코리아 컴퍼니 본사 앞에서 ‘뮬란 보이콧 선포식’을 개최하고 홍콩 민주항쟁을 탄압하는 데 일조한 <뮬란> 영화의 배급/상영 중단을 요구했다. “민주항쟁의 역사를 지닌 이 땅에, 탄압과 폭력이 소비될 자리는 없다”는 우리의 외침을 디즈니가 듣지 못했을 리 없다. 그러나 디즈니와 국내 멀티플렉스 회사들은 끝끝내 한국에서 <뮬란>의 극장 개봉을 강행하고 있다.
홍콩에서는 아직도 수많은 시민들이 부당하게 구금되고 있다. 해결되지 않은 의문사를 맞은 사람들, 경찰폭력으로 사망한 차우츠록 씨, 홍콩 국가보안법 피해자들. 우리는 이들을 기억하기에 절대로 그 참담한 폭력을 소비할 수 없다. 이는 비단 유역비, 견자단의 발언에서 그칠 문제가 아니다. 디즈니는 조직적으로 이들을 비호했고, 이 폭력을 ‘하나의 정치적인 입장일 뿐’으로 치부해버렸다. 자신의 삶을 걸고 맞서 싸우는 이들이 디즈니라는 거대 자본에 지워지는 일을 두고만 볼 수 없다. 홍콩 시민들도 SNS를 통해 세계 각국에 <뮬란>을 보이콧 해줄 것을 요청했다.
이것은 우리 모두를 위한 싸움이다. 시진핑 정부가 언론의 자유를 존중했다면. 리원량 씨의 고발은 지금의 팬데믹 상황을 막을 수 있었다. 한국 정부가 외교라는 이름으로 비열한 수 싸움을 하는 대신, 홍콩에서 일어나는 국가폭력에 목소리 낼 수 있을 만큼 정의로웠다면. 우리는 거리에서 당연한 요구를 외치는 일들을 조금 덜 할 수 있었을 것이다. 그렇기에 우리는 모두 연결되어 있고, 반드시 함께 손을 맞잡고 서로를 마주보아야만 할 이유가 있다.
우리는 모두 삶에서 폭력을 소비하지만, 이렇듯 명백한 탄압을 내포한 <뮬란>부터라도 소비하지 않을 수 있다. 우리 모두는 불평등을 이겨낼 위대한 시민들이다. 그렇기에 우리의 구호는 나아가 결과가 되고, 시민들의 목소리는 마케팅으로 지울 수 없음을 거대 자본에 단단히 각인시킬 것이다. 그러므로 지금이라도 디즈니와 국내 멀티플렉스들은 뮬란 국내 개봉 시도를 즉각 중단하라! #BoycottMulan

[Statement] Our slogan will be the result.
Stop releasing Mulan in Korea!
On July 1, Korean civic groups held a "Mulan boycott declaration protest" in front of the Walt Disney Korea Company headquarters and called for an end to the distribution/play of the movie "Mulan" that helped suppress the Hong Kong democratic uprising. Disney must have heard our cry, "There is no place for oppression and violence to be consumed in this land with a history of democratic protests." However, Disney and Korean multiplex companies are finally pushing ahead with the release of "Mulan" in Korea.
In Hong Kong, numerous citizens are still unjustly detained. Those facing unsolved mysterious deaths, Mr. Chow Tsz-Lok - who died of police violence, and the victims of Hong Kong National Security Law. We can never consume that terrible violence because we remember them. This is not just a matter for Crystal Liu, Donnie Yen. Disney systematically defended them and dismissed the violence as "only one political position." We cannot let those who fight for their lives be erased by the huge capital named Disney. Hong Kong citizens have also asked countries around the world to boycott Mulan through SNS.
This is a fight for all of us. If the Xi Jinping administration respected freedom of speech. Li Wenliang's accusation could have prevented the current Pandemics situation. If the Korean government was righteous enough to voice the national violence in Hong Kong instead of fighting a mean battle in the name of diplomacy. We could have done a little less work on the streets crying for granted. That's why we're all connected, and there's a reason why we must hold hands together and face each other.
We all consume violence in our lives, but we may not even begin with Mulan, which implies this apparent suppression. We are all great citizens who will overcome inequality. That is why our slogan will be the result, and the voices of citizens will be firmly imprinted on the huge capital that cannot be erased by marketing. So stop trying to release Mulan in Korea right now! #BoycottMulan
